Making Art Accessible

Whether by letting people dress up theater costumes for photo opportunities, or holding summer workshops to learn to paint or play music. SHOCASE looks for ways to expose the community to the fun of art in a way that lets them dig in and get their hands dirty. SHOCASE also has strong ties to our local school district, supporting art in our schools with everything from helping to fund upgrades to facilities to helping band students purchase and maintain instruments or find mentors in the local community.

SHOCASE provides opportunities for local artists to display their work publicly, and often to teach others about their art. We broadly support art in almost any medium, and look for ways to include children in artistic events.

Supporting Quality Art In All Forms

Each year we partner with local businesses to produce the SHOCASE Gala event. The theme of the event changes each year, and it is an opportunity for local artists to share their musical talent with the community. This is a fundraising event that allows the entire community to have a fun night out while support the arts locally, especially the arts in local education, as that is where all of funds raised are applied.

FAQs

How do you finance these art events, experiences and educational support?

SHOCASE uses several methods to financially support the programs and events that we produce for the community of Sweet Home. The first is by soliciting support in the form of volunteerism and financial donations by our generous community members. We also raise money by selling admission to fund raising events or selling snacks or other small fund-raising conveniences. Finally, we reach out to generous local businesses to act as sponsors as a way to show their support for the community.

How did SHOCASE get started?

SHOCASE found it’s roots in the mid 2010s when a group of local citizens recognized that the high school auditorium was in bad shape and needed some renovations. They started working locally to help the high school get enough financial support to replace the curtain and refinish the stage, but there was still more to be done.

I’m a Sweet Home artist that would like to get a chance to display my work, how can I do that?

There are many opportunities locally such as the City Hall art displays, or the upcoming mural projects. SHOCASE may not be the organization that is creating every opportunity, but we generally know about local opportunities for artists. Please contact us so that we can talk to you about opportunities and options of which you could take advantage.

How can I help support SHOCASE and support art in Sweet Home?

The two most direct ways to support SHOCASE are to either donate to help our organization be more effective, or volunteer your time and efforts to help support something we are doing. Another way is simply to practice being creative and making art. If you can find joy in creating art, you can spread that joy and help build a community that loves and appreciates art.
